This three day progressive course will be led by Andy Cumpstey, a doctor, member of the UCLan Mountain Medicine teaching team and Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor.

This course is designed for prospective / current PGDip Mountain Medicine students and alumni who are confident seconding trad climbs but want to gain more confidence and skills to be start leading climbs with traditionally placed protection.

Course Description

Content will include route selection, anchor choice, building belays, traditional protection (nuts / cams / slings) selection and placement, descending routes and problem solving.

Participants should be confident seconding Severe climbs and be ready to transition to lead climbing. Participants will need to bring their own harness, belay plate, helmet, rock shoes, some slings, some screw gate karabiners and prussik loops.
