Course Description

Course Objectives

The course focusses on the general principles of the IOSH Managing Safely course following the Plan, Do, Check, Act approach in a safety, health and environmental management system and comprises six modules:

  • Thinking back

Focusing on what we learned on the initial course, revisiting the reasons why it is important to manage safely, and examining your role in influencing this.

  • Leadership

Leadership is an essential part of a health and safety management system; leaders need to see safety and health as a core value in order to effectively control safety and health issues in the workplace.

  • Plan

The Plan stage of a safety and health management system consists of the safety, health and environment policy and planning how to deliver it.

  • Do

The Do stage includes risk profiling and implementing the plan, risk profiling is about identifying, eliminating and minimising risks in the workplace.

Check

  • The Check stage is important because it helps to measure progress by identifying what went well and what needs to be improved.
  • Act

The Act stage tells us what improvements are required to make the safety, health and environment system successful. This involves reviewing performance and learning lessons.

Assessment

At the end of the course, there is a 20-question multi- choice assessment paper; successful delegates will be awarded an IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.
